You know what I liked about the first Mass Effect game over the others? The fact that you could find some armors for your crew mates that not only affected their stats, but could significantly change the way they looked. I recall for example there was one armor for Tali that completely changed her purple and black outfit to gray and red or something like that. Course I don't miss the constant duplicates of items that functioned as nothing but vendor trash.

Why doesn't Bioware just give us proper modding tools so we can fix the embarrassment that was ME3?

They should have the series right to begin with instead of having people pointing out their many mistakes and flaws and doing damage control on the series. They left quite a mess as they went on. It's laughable to have ME:A. That shit would be basically impossible in ME1. They're in a completely different universe now than from where they started off at. It speaks volumes of how incompetent BW is.

Its so strange how they went from KotoR, one of the arguably best RPGs of all time to ME3 the most bare bones RPG style you can get.

KotOR 1 is also pretty lackluster in the RPG part. Very linear plot with little meaningful choice. And many skills, stats, feats, and powers are useless or underwhelming. Sue KotOR 1 is entertaining, but it's lackluster in being and RPG and has lackluster gameplay. Though this is not as bad as it is in ME. I wouldn't even consider any ME game a real RPG. Just third person shooters with some RPG elements.
Going back to KotOR 2, I'd say that does the many things better than its predecessor. The only real thing that comes to mind that K1 does better is graphics, environment, and atmosphere. K2 is better in the RPG element, story department, gameplay department, writing department, etc. Ofc, the base game is very unfinished, but I assume the Restored Content Mod makes the game batter than its predecessor easily. I was playing K2 with them RCM like 2 years ago but had to stop when the installation decided to stop working.
